You are the virtual machine administrator for Contoso. You manage the company’s Software-Defined Datacenter primarily using VMM. You have been asked to reduce the work required to deploy and maintain the company’s internally developed web application. The application is a two-tiered application that runs on IIS and uses a Microsoft SQL Server backend. The development team delivers updates to the application, every three weeks. This requires a developer and a systems engineer to work a night shift to deploy the new release during a maintenance window to all eight of their web servers. Very often the deployment process uncovers a problem that requires the engineer and developer to work several hours to resolve, because testing was not thoroughly completed before they attempted to deploy it into production.

Before you build out the architecture, your manager has the following questions for you:

• How do you plan on reducing the work required to deploy the new software release each month?

• How will you reduce problems with the production deployments that currently takes hours to resolve?
