Searching for pictures

If you know the name of the picture you’re looking for or a tag associated with it, you can search for it using the Search charm while in the Photos app. When you click on a picture file that is stored in the Pictures library, it will open in the Photos app. (If you click a picture file that isn’t located in the Pictures library, currently it opens on the desktop in Paint or your default desktop program.)

Search for photos

  1. While inside the Photos app, use the Windows key+S to open the Search bar.

  2. Type the name of the file to open.

  3. Click the picture file in the results. If the photo is stored in the Pictures library, it will open in the Photos app.
